7 Fashion trends that should be forgotten in 2012

Posted by Shilpa A Thursday 19 January 2012

Constantly being in the public eye is not as easy as it looks and celebrities are always trying their best to look perfect everytime they step out on the streets. However, this need to be a trendsetter, can sometimes take an ugly turn and celebrities and designers often get a lot of flak for pioneering bizarre trends. Though the year 2011 has passes by without any freaky trends catching on, there still were a few outlandish creations that the unsuspecting public was tortured with. This is our list of awful fashion creations and trends that came forth last year and we can only pray never to these trends again this year!

1. Yak Nipple Dress by Rachel Friere

Lady Gaga’s meat dress provided fashion critics with a lot of food for thought last year. We’re not sure if Brit designer Rachel Friere recycled the pop icon’s idea here but her Yak Nipple Dress is by far the most hideous thing we have seen ever. Dubbed ‘sickening and repulsive’ by critics, the dress is a part of the designer’s nipple collection and was made from 3,000 yak and cow nipples. The two dresses were made from the body parts given to the designer by a tannery which is hardly a consolation given the sadism the garb displays. We don’t yet have PETA’s take on the outfit, but the designer claims that the dresses merely educate people about the amount of leather wasted on a daily basis.
2. Urinal Dress by The Rodnik Band

London-based design team Rodnik Band has crafted a dress that resembles a urinal. Crafted entirely from sequins, the disgusting dress is apparently inspired by the Dadaist and Surrealist works of French artist Marcel Duchamp. Apart from being repulsive purely on its shape, the ghastly dress is an insult to women’s dignity in more ways than one. And though we’re surprised the designers aren’t being sued by women’s group for having created this monstrosity just yet, we’re just a little relieved that its creators didn’t promote this dress with an ad showing the urinal being “used”!
3. Nudie Frock by The Rodnik Band

If you thought the Urinal Dress was offensive to women, you have gotta look at this equally shocking creation, again by Brit designers from the label The Rodnik Band. Made entirely from sequins, this abomination leaves little to the imagination. What is also shocking about this creation is that it imagines women’s breasts and unmentionables to be a lot paler than the rest of their bodies and surprisingly misses out on depicting a belly button! The freaky Madonna-inspired make-up on the model that they label used to showcase this dress also sends out very mixed signals.
4. Bikini made from vodka bottle shards

Shown at the opening night of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Miami, this bikini made from shards of SKYY vodka bottle takes the notion of cutting-edge fashion a little too literally. The cut-out swimsuit was created for the new Diesel line and modeled by Kristin Cavallari who apparently sustained multiple cuts and bruises after walking down the runway with it.
5. Snakeskin Manicure

Nail art has been one the most “in” trends for the past few seasons. And though most of us draw the line at getting our mitts bejeweled, The Hand & Foot spa in London, Chelsea, London, took the trend up quite a few notched by offering clients the chance to get real snakeskin embedded onto their nails. At £62 per nail, this has got to be the priciest ugly manicure anywhere in the world!
6. Lip Tattoos

A decade and a half ago, when Maybelline pioneered the non-transferable lipstick, we thought the world of lip colors would never be the same again. These crazy lip tattoos, clearly have proven us wrong. Created by Violentlips.com, these gosh-awful lip tattoos defy logic in fashion sense all in one go. The American brand has lip tattoos ranging from purple cheetah prints as well as pink polka dots. And just in case you thought these would only ever be popular in the Japanese and Korean markets, check out Kim K and Jessie J from Britain’s Got Talent sport these uglies!
7. Marine life and Safari-themed Eyelashes

In comparison to the offensive and downright silly trends that we have featured on our esteemed list above, this line of safari and marine life-themes eyelashes does seem pretty sane. These paper eyelashes from Paperlife, however, are still pretty darn ugly and we hope fashionistas do not wear them out in public ever except perhaps on Halloween! source
